A HELICOPTER RIDE TO REMEMBER!

On August 10, 2022, Daryl Fletcher suffered a heart attack and fortunately CPR was applied thanks to two quick thinking ladies and Ord City Police Officer Paul Deaver (now Greeley County Sheriff) utilized an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and successfully resuscitated Daryl prior to Ord Fire Department Rescue Squad arriving on scene.  Daryl was transported to Valley County Hospital and immediately flown out for further emergency treatment.  Daryl survived this life threatening event  and is thankful to all who helped save his life that day.

The AED’s in the Law Enforcement vehicles are thanks to a multi-million dollar grant awarded to the Department of Health and Human Services from the Leona M. and Henry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.

As part of that grant, the Stryker Corporation launched the Hearts on Duty which allows state coordinators to submit four success stories a year that are eligible to receive an AED provided at no cost to the survivor or law enforcement officer to donate to a location of their choosing in their community to further protect residents from sudden cardiac arrest.

Daryl chose to donate an AED to Loup Valley Fitness Center in Ord.  When he recalled his story to DHHS he said he had always thought it would be fun to fly in a helicopter and the one time he did he doesn’t remember it!  DHHS worked with Tri-City LifeNet managers and got Daryl his ride he could remember!

Daryl was able to deliver the AED to Loup Valley Fitness via LifeNet helicopter!!  The helicopter landed at the Ord Airport and picked Daryl up, gave him a short flight around Ord and landed in the Ord Quiz parking lot.  No doubt Daryl will remember this flight!!!

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day, and originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season.

Ord Police Department hopes you have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend!

A large snapping turtle decided it wanted to visit the Catholic Church here in Ord.  Unfortunately, not a good idea when it was blocking the front door.  The turtle was successfully removed and relocated to the river so it can run another race with the hare.  Hopefully it will have better luck if it decides to roam again!
